Post 2009 Kohaku Uta Gassen lineup announced

On Monday, NHK revealed the artist lineup for this year's Kohaku Uta Gassen. 50 acts will be performing this year, evenly split between the Red and White Teams. Eight of the artists are appearing on Kohaku for the first time, including Arashi, NYC boys, and Kaela Kimura.

Other notable artists include Masaharu Fukuyama, who previously appeared on Kohaku 16 years ago, and Ayaka, who will be performing on stage for the last time before she goes on hiatus.

The complete list can be found in the forums.

Thank you!

Someone out there is so ficking excited their idols are on top of the list, but they were not aware it was listed in Japanese alphabetical order. Really.

But meh, still nothing special also for this year's, though I'll be watching it since it's a tradition to snark on the participants.

not so sure (because i can't read japanese) but it seems that it'll be aired on BShi, BS2 (NHK channels) so if you have those in your cable.. good for you! xD

It airs on NHK General TV, BShi, BS2, and NHK Radio 1. You probably have NHK General TV.

Only one song each. Just imagine, they have about 50 performers, if each performer is allocated about five mins for each song, then, the whole program will last about four hours. Though last time I saw it, they usually have a medley in the end. But I can't remember whether the medley came from one of the performer or not.

Cont... (please dont press the submit button before you finish your thought)

NHK usually requested performer to perform their hit song of year (or yesteryear in some cases), or at least the song that was the most recognisable to the public from that performer. It's not neccessary to perform new release or new singles.
