Hiro Mizushima leads live-action "Beck" movie

"Beck," the popular music manga by Harold Sakuishi, is being adapted as a live-action film. Director Yukihiko Tsutsumi ("20th Century Boys") will be in charge of the project, with actor Hiro Mizushima in the leading role.

The manga, which was originally serialized from 2000 to 2008, tells the story of five young men who form a rock band called Beck. The protagonist in the manga was the guitarist/vocalist Yukio "Koyuki" Tanaka, but the film will instead revolve around the band's main guitarist and leader, Ryusuke Minami.

Mizushima has been cast as Ryusuke, while Takeru Sato will play the part of Koyuki. The two previously played brothers in the drama series "Mei-chan no Shitsuji." Playing the other members of Beck are Kenta Kiritani as the rapper Chiba, Osamu Mukai as the bassist Taira, and Aoi Nakamura as the drummer Saku.

30 original songs are being written, which will be performed by the actors themselves with real instruments. Mizushima and the others are currently undergoing special training for about a month. The movie's climax is said to be a large-scale concert scene with the band playing on stage.

Shooting is scheduled to start in early July, with a theatrical release expected in fall 2010.

And another Idol-Vehicle. Not one of these actors in just a tiny little bit musically talented - Mizushima and Sato not even the best actors around. I wish they would search for talented actors, instead of stuffing the same, not so great ones into project after project.

Hmmm i think Takeru Sato is very talented he really got me by playing diffrent personality's when he got possesed by the Imagins in Kamen Rider Den-o especialy in episode 3 where he used his own voice and not the ones from the voice actors (while alot of us didn't noticed it), so yeah on that point i don't really agree with you.

But yeah that's me and Takeru Sato is one of the actors i look up to so maybe i'm a little too positive about him i do agree with Hiro Mizushima he's not the best but for me he's just okay.

PS: wth? in Princess Princess D they also replaced the lead from a Manga with a other character, they do it the same with this movie i foud it annoying that it's Takeru's Character again.

sure is a film filled with eye candies but i guess all we can hope for now is that for them to pull this off..and knowing that they'll be undergoing training for that is somewhat consoling..at least it only means that they'll be doing their best right??
id probably be on the look out for Kiritani Kenta..that guy amuses me..

I think Takeru Sato can pull it off only if his chracter heading towards to a boyish tough guy. Hiro in the other hand, the trailer for the movie drop didn't really did it do it for me but i hope the movie is good when i'll see it, right now i can't see him as tough guy or a singer, i haven't seen him sing yet.

seems like type casting, Takeru did play notable shy characters in some drama's and Hiro speaks english, i'm fine with this. my only problem is that they arent real teenagers i prefer real teenagers to play those roles.

actually it was the other way round for me..they reminded me of their respective characters in Mei-chan no Shitsuji..
anyways, Hiro speaking english?? definitely looking forward to that..

BECK is probably the best anime I watched when I was still watching anime. I love that show. I can't really see Sato Takeru as Koyuki, because Takeru looks a lot cooler than Koyuki. Hiro as Ryusuke looks really interesting.And Kiritani as Chiba. o__o I wonder how that will turn out. Aoi NAkamura as Saku should be fine, but I still remember him as the gay kid from Gakko Ja Oshierarenai. And Mukai Osamu isan interesting choice for Taira. I wonder who will play Maho. XD

I agreed on Takeru being a talented actor, while Hiro, I prefer him in comedy role like in HanaKimi rather than being cool like in Mei-chan. But I'm more worry about their singing.

None of them are reportedly a great singer (or at least someone who can carry a tune) or a guitar player. And I do not think one month training is enough, unless they did a heavy intensive training. Then, they might look passable.

I wonder if he'll get a part in AKIRA, the Hollywood adaptation just for his English skills.. hmm...

really? hmm i never thought about that i always seem to like this...
