The 3rd Asian Film Awards were presented in Hong Kong on Tuesday. Japan picked up multiple wins, including Best Film, Best Director, and Best Actor.
Kiyoshi Kurosawa's international collaboration "Tokyo Sonata" faced five other works, including "Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea," to take the title of Best Film. Likewise, Hirokazu Koreeda ("Still Walking") beat Hayao Miyazaki and four others to take Best Director. Masahiro Motoki won Best Actor for his role in the highly-acclaimed "Departures," while Chinese actress Zhou Xun earned Best Actress for "The Equation of Love and Death." Japan's remaining wins came in the Best Screenwriter category (Kiyoshi Kurosawa, Max Mannix, and Sachiko Tanaka for "Tokyo Sonata") and Best Composer (Joe Hisaishi for "Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea"). The full list of nominees and winners can be seen on the official website. Link to article |
