Post Vertigo to remake "Death Note" for U.S.

American movie studio Vertigo Entertainment is apparently working on a remake of the popular franchise "Death Note," which has been turned into three live-action films in Japan. The news was quietly revealed in production notes for the horror films "Shutter" and "The Strangers."

According to the notes, Vlas and Charles Parlapanides have been tapped to pen the screenplay. They are currently writing for the upcoming TV series "Undercover" on The CW.

No other details have been revealed at this point.

Does Vertigo Entertainment only do remakes? From what I've looked up online it seems like they just pick up asian films and retool them for America. I'd be happy if they had a broader spectrum or something. The writers have virtually nill history on tapping any screenplays... they'll probably just change "Tokyo" to "New York City" and "Shinigami" into "Reaper".

NO No No and NO. Remakes are never good. Why don't they just DUB the asian one? appreciate the Japanese versions for god's sake.

Not even Dragonball US version and AKIRA released, this Death Note has came up to be made into US version??
Jeeez... those were empty heads working on Vertigo Entertainment... Why not make live version of your own "Thundercats" and "Silverhawks" instead of great Asian movies? I'll puke in the opening night if it's true.

Agreed. This is truely horrifying. I think I may start a petition / boycott cuz I really don't want this to happen.
