Gackt's Hollywood debut

Musician Gackt will act in his first Hollywood film. The movie, titled "Bunraku," is an action film written and directed by Guy Moshe, starring Josh Hartnett and Demi Moore.

The film is named after a type of traditional Japanese puppet theater, but the universe it is set in also draws inspiration from origami, video games, and other sources. Hartnett plays a drifter on a quest for revenge. Gackt will play his companion, a samurai named Yoshi.

This is Gackt's first movie role since he starred with hyde in the 2003 film "Moon Child."

Filming began in Romania during the middle of this month. The movie is scheduled to hit U.S. theaters in 2009, but no release information for Japan has been announced yet.

What's the riot about? It's only Hollywood. The movie will suck. Hollywood and "samurai" always leads to pure and utter crap.

And while Gackt may be a good musician, he totally sucks as actor. His Kenshin in Furinkazan was a joke.

Excuse me none existant moron....how dare you slam Gackt in this way. You should be so lucky, so talented, so decent or even vaguely as attractive...(hold on, not possible))...as Gackt.

Get over it, tomorrow you will still be a moron and a loser.

The move might be rubbish as you say, but it does give him an opportunity and his Kenshin was just fine. Stop being a jealous idiot and get on with your own life.

You said it. Don't just go assuming stuff like this. If his acting really did suck he wouldn't be the leading role period.

His voice is beautiful and he a sedutive boy but his performance in Moonchild was so ridiculous...
Only teens in love can find it was a good actor.

Sorry but I agree. While nobody can forecast the absolute quality of the movie, Gackt + Hollywood is similar to Pretty + Dull.

Gackt's acting skill is poor. He's already artificial when he's NOT (officially, on cue) acting, and in Moon Child, he only took his obvious acting to a new level. Actually, all he did was show off his pretty face - which is NOT enough.
A good actor does not pretend to be the part. He becomes the part. His emotions will be genuine, even if conjured up on cue. I cannot imagine to see Gackt burst into tears as convincingly the way the less pretty, less musically skilled Yosuke Kubozuka did in the last episode of IWGP, which earned him an Academy Award for damn good reason. THAT was good, impressive "acting".
Gackt however, still thinks a good acting job is done Brechtian aka obviously fake.
Just because some of you like his music (so do I) and think he's got a pretty face, doesn't mean he's a good actor. A butt ugly person can be a fabulous actor. Acting skills are completely unrelated to musical skills or appearances as long as the character portrayed is not a beautiful musician. You must convince the viewer that you are indeed that character, and make sure that character is credible. That is all. And Gackt failed. He was still Gackt, not able to be a genuine, Gackt-less Sho.

And as for Hollywood, it is true that maybe due to an actor's or director's fame, a movie will be a blockbuster, but just like "I am Legend", 2 weeks later the majority will agree that that movie sucked and the name Will Smith was simply big enough to sell so many tickets. The average Hollywood production is a dull pile of stereotypes and many Hollywood movies are so very much alike that you have to pay attention not to mix them up. Car chases, rich people (or the crass opposite, each in their stereotypical universe), and that kiss in the end. Good vs evil, no grey zone, no thinking. And of course, Americans are always great heroes. Tom Cruise saved Japan as the Last Samurai, how great of this American and how INSULTING to Japanese culture and history.
Trivia: Hollywood has in the past been, and will always continue to be, rather brutal to smaller studios and producers who try to establish themselves. This includes, but is not limited to: arson, extorsion, physical assault, slander, plagiarism,... Oh Hollywood, what a dream! The best actors and movies I know, come from somewhere else.

I'm not trying to pick on you, & I love GACKT as much as the next guy, but everything you just said was totally biased. IMO, I agree that GACKT isn't that great of an actor, at least he wasn't in "Moonchild."

And the movie will (probably) suck. That's pretty much how Hollywood is now, it's no denying.

I don't know.... No matter what i love to see the movie...
I think Gackt as a great person.... And i love to see him do more things than just sing... And not everyone is great at everything...

And i actrually liked Gackt in it.... he wasn't the stuck up guy he acts like some times....

I still can't wait to see it... i know Hollywood not the greatest place but still reason why people want to go to Hollywood is because it a world known place... and if you make it there.. it good on your chances of gettign roles around the world....(even though the movie is the worst movie.... hahaa)

I'm on neither side.... I'm goign to wait till it comes out to judge both Gackt's acting and the movie quality....
