Default [2008.02.22] Bennie K Special Interview

Bennie K Special Interview

Bennie K had released their album “The World” last year which was based on the colorful theme of “Trip around the World of Sounds”. They also released a collaboration single with 2 BACKKA called “Home”. This year, their song entitled “Monochrome” is the theme song for the current NTV drama, “Binbou Dashi”.

-What changes have you noticed about yourself-

[Oricon] “Monochrome” is the first TV theme song you’ve made so far. Was it specifically written for it?

[CICO] Yeah, we read the script for the first episode and asked the production team about their ideas before writing it.
[YUKI] I empathized with the main protagonist who struggled with work problems and trying to keep up with life. I wrote the lyrics focusing on that.

[Oricon] The song opens brightly with a slow but steady tempo that allows the lyrics to really come through. What did you want the listeners to think of when they hear your song?

[CICO] As I read the script for episode one, I really noticed the relationship between the protagonist and the people around them. There are people who are taken advantage of and people who take advantage of others. It’s a fact that in a competitive company of today’s society, there are the winners and there are the losers. Why is that? I thought about it a lot. Of course, it could be the case of unintentionally using someone or to maybe knock down the competition, but that doesn’t change anything, right? I wrote the song from the other perspective.

-Not having the freedom to live as one wants-

[Oricon] CICO rapped about the shallow winner who buys brand name goods as well as throwing away their closed heart Your expression of this paradox is really impressive.

[CICO] I think it’s important to believe and love someone. But, there are probably people who can’t do that. I think it’s really important to express this paradox to listeners.

[Oricon] This is an exceptional song for Bennie K. It flows into the heart and liberates the mind. Good job!

[YUKI] Thank you! I thought often what the heart yearns for, then my mood started to turn miserable. But there are people who place themselves first and live the way they want, right? I want to believe we will be rewarded for not giving up on gaining one’s freedom to do as they want. I would be happy if the listeners believe they have a chance too. It’d be great if this song is a stress reliever. (laughing)

[Oricon] There’s an additional hard rock song entitled “Speak no Evil” on the single.

[YUKI] Oh yeah, was it a good stress reliever? (laughing)
[CICO] Oh and the song we did with 2 BACKKA, “Home” is on it too. I hope you can hear a different kind of Bennie K with these three songs.
