Ayaka's best album breaks 1 million

"Ayaka's History 2006-2009," the first best album by singer-songwriter Ayaka (21), has just reached a million copies shipped, about a month and a half after its release.

Released on September 23, the album started strong with almost 350,000 sales in its first week, the highest for a female artist this year. It ranked #1 on the charts for two consecutive weeks and was #4 this past week. So far, it is the only album by a solo artist to break the million mark this year.

Ayaka announced in April that she is putting her career on hold to undergo treatment for Graves' disease. She also revealed at that time that she and actor Hiro Mizushima (25) had married.

Ha? But i didn't see Ayaka's million in Album...if she hit million already it means she surpassed Greeeen already? can someone plz. post the Album ranking 2009. This made me confused since i stalk Oricon.

im not so sure, but i think it refers to her album being given a "Million" certification from RIAJ

she's the 3rd artist to be given one this year (in terms of album shipments)..GReeeeN and Arashi being the 1st and 2nd ones

I was also wondering - according to the Oricon monthly ranking, Ayaka's album was released on 09/23, it sold 348,013 in September, and 354,674 in October. This adds up to a total of only 702,687. Is this some other measure of sales/shipment?

Oricon is tracking sales, while this million mark is units shipped. So the album's not technically a "million seller" yet, but it soon will be given the way sales are going.

And I believe that Oricon does not track all the sales in all location. For example, they do not count CD sales at a handshake event and they do not count CD sales from several online outlets. RIAJ's year-end number is more official and accurate.
