Kabuki actor Ebizo Ichikawa (31) and free announcer Mao Kobayashi (27) are in a serious relationship, it was learned on Thursday. In a fax sent to the media, they revealed that they plan to get formally engaged in the near future.

Speaking to reporters in front of his home, Ichikawa said he proposed at the end of June, and that they first met last December. They met when Ichikawa appeared as a guest on NTV's "NEWS ZERO," on which Kobayashi is a newscaster.

The dates for their engagement and wedding ceremonies have not yet been decided, but based on the schedules of Ichikawa and his father, actor Danjuro Ichikawa (63), it seems likely that the engagement will take place during December.

ok, at first i was really shocked about the news esp on Mao's side because she's practically been rumored to be with Arashi's Sakurai Sho whom also happens to be her fellow caster in NEWS ZERO..and yeah, i kinda rooted for them..*gets bricked* :p

well i guess rumors are just indeed rumors..

on the side note, wishing the couple happiness! :D

Scratch that itch with Red Bacteria Vacuum

Yokohama, Japan - November 11, 2009 – Today, HearJapan brings the world three women playing old fashioned punk rock straight out of Osaka. Formed in 1998, Red Bacteria Vacuum honed their skills over a few years, eventually kicking it into high gear and moving to Tokyo. The band kept on going all the way to America, touring the west coast and finally hooking up with the legendary Japan Nite Tour.

Red Bacteria Vacuum play a melodic yet brash brand of punk rock tempered with moments of indie and garage rock. They will slap you square in the mouth and get you to pump your fist in the air at the same time. They aren't all screams and violence though. There are plenty of softer moments (relatively speaking) that prove there's much more going on underneath the crazy make-up and powerful guitars. They mix up styles with a suitable disregard for the rules, adding in a bit of electro new-wave and three part vocal harmonies at times. Through it all runs a dangerously fun spirit set to explode into chaos at any moment.

Red Bacteria Vacuum had appeared on HearJapan before as part of the free Japan Nite Sampler. Those free tracks were extremely popular. Now you can get their entire 16 song album "Dolly Dolly, make a epoch" at special discounted price, essentially getting 6 tracks for free, as well as an additional 5% discount!
Red Bacteria Vacuum - "Dolly Dolly, make a epoch" is on sale now at HearJapan for ¥1,500 | $16.45 | €11.00.

Rumors of the band GReeeeN breaking up were laid to rest on Thursday. One member, HIDE (29), wrote an angry post on his blog in response to false newspaper reports that the group was disbanding after the release of their best album later this month.

The four members of GReeeeN made their major label debut in 2007 while they were dentistry students, and since then three of them have passed the national dentistry exam. According to the false news reports, the group was breaking up so that the members could focus on their careers as dentists.

On his blog, HIDE angrily denounced the media, while reassuring fans that the group is not breaking up. The post was later replaced by an official statement from the group's record label.

HIDE's post also seemed to indicate that the members' faces may remain unseen by the public forever. The mysterious group originally planned to reveal their faces after all four members passed the national exam, but now that some of them are actual dentists, they don't want their success as musicians to interfere with their work.

"Ayaka's History 2006-2009," the first best album by singer-songwriter Ayaka (21), has just reached a million copies shipped, about a month and a half after its release.

Released on September 23, the album started strong with almost 350,000 sales in its first week, the highest for a female artist this year. It ranked #1 on the charts for two consecutive weeks and was #4 this past week. So far, it is the only album by a solo artist to break the million mark this year.

Ayaka announced in April that she is putting her career on hold to undergo treatment for Graves' disease. She also revealed at that time that she and actor Hiro Mizushima (25) had married.

In June, it was revealed that popular actor Shun Oguri (26) is making his directorial debut with a film titled "Surely Someday." Casting rumors have surfaced since then, but the distributor Shochiku finally announced some official details this week.

The story is loosely based on the bonds between Oguri and his friends from high school. The central cast consists of actors Keisuke Koide, Ryo Katsuji, Go Ayano, Ryohei Suzuki, and Tsuyoshi Muro. Additional cast members include Takashi Okamura (of Ninety-nine), Naoto Takenaka, Fuyuki Moto, and Satoshi Tsumabuki.

The five main characters form a band, hoping to gain popularity with their original song called "Surely Someday" at their school's cultural festival. Unfortunately, a foolish incident results in them dropping out of school. With their lives seemingly at a dead end, they take on the challenge of trying to turn their lives around.

Filming took place in July and August, and the project is now in editing. The film should be completed by January of next year, with a nationwide theatrical release planned for the summer.

This year marks NHK's 60th Kohaku Uta Gassen. For this "memorial Kohaku," the broadcaster revealed on Tuesday that the show's hosts will once again be SMAP Masahiro Nakai (37) and actress Yukie Nakama (30).

This will be the third time that Kohaku is hosted by the "Naka-Naka" combo, after 2006 and 2008. Nakama also served as a host in 2005, making this her fourth time at Kohaku. Nakai, on the other hand, will be hosting for his fourth consecutive year and sixth overall. Except for NHK announcers, no other celebrity has hosted Kohaku as many times as Nakai.

As usual, Kohaku will take place on December 31, but this year it will start at 7:15pm, five minutes earlier than in previous years.
